The Plank - Pole Dancing Move

Ever wonder how celebrities like Lady Gaga, Britney Spears and Madonna have beautiful and toned arms? Or how J-Lo and Beyonce end up with such curvaceous yet tight “buns of steel”?

I think I found the answer – Pole Dancing!

Recently I went to a pole dancing class and let me tell you, this class WILL GIVE YOU THE UPPER BODY workout you desire. I walked into a class of 10 women playing around poles and immediately felt I was in heaven. I was uncontrollably grinning as I darted to the last available pole. The instructor started the class with basic tricks named “attitude knee”, “attitude heel”, “front hook open”, “reverse” and “side spin”.

To my amazement I turned out to be a natural on the pole. The instructor had asked if I had done this before and when I told her I had not, she was surprised. At that moment a brief thought entered my mind, “At least I can do stripping as a back up job if Social Work doesn’t work out?!”.

I laughed heartily and continued to spin on my pole. When it was finally time to do a routine, I was surprised how coordinated I was even though my biceps and triceps were aching me. As I danced, I felt empowered and energized as well as a slight case of light-headedness. But something in me realized, I can do whatever I want and actually not give a damn about anybody. I was having fun with my pole. At the end of the class, the instructor told me that I was one of the best beginner students she had.

Should I be honored for the ability to pick up quickly or is there a hidden characteristic inside me? Nonetheless, it was an awesome experience and if I keep this up I will be one step closer to looking like Beyonce from the bottom down and Lady Gaga from the top!
