Flags in Various Sizes
Let’s begin with the most obvious accessory. The Fifa World Cup has 32 teams involved in the tournament, so getting all if not most of the team flags is absolutely necessary. This year the teams are:
Jerseys and T-Shirts
Decorating your home with jerseys or t-shirts on the wall gives your place a “pub like” feel. It also generates attention and can be used for guests to use or take pictures with.
Stickers
There are several reasons to have stickers. The most useful reason is because they help distinguish people’s drinks. By handing out stickers to those with plastic cups you can ensure everyone is re-using their own cups while at the same time adding the soccer or African feel. Stickers can decorate your face or body and can be placed in several spots around your home.
Streamers
Every fun party needs streamers! Get the most vibrant solid colours and decorate like you would for a kids party. Colours create a happy and bright atmosphere which people will appreciate. You can buy them at any dollar store and don’t forget to get good tape to go along. Just remember to be careful to rip your wall paint off when removing them at the end of the night or the next morning.
Mini Soccer Balls
These tiny cloth soccer balls were found at a dollar store in packs of 6. They are great to throw on top of tables or hang from the walls. You can easily thread a string on a small surface and hang multiple balls from the ceilings or walls. They are more than just festive! They are cute, cheap and if you feel creative, try making your own! You can simply buy styrofoam balls at a dollar store and with a permanent marker you can draw the ball! It’s just not as easy as it looks.
Vuvuzela
These blow horns used at stadiums are most typically used in Africa by fans at soccer games. While this is a widely used instrument during this years FIFA 2010, the instrument had a controversial resistance and was almost banned from the World Cup. The sound is compared to a “giant hive of angry bees” and has peeved players, coaches, advertisers, and fans watching on television for overpowering the natural sound of fans in the stadium.
However, in a World Cup themed party, this will definitely liven up you party if blown at appropriate times. The mini vuvuzelas you find at dollar stores are also great handouts during a party for people to either look at you in disbelief or be humoured by your ingenious party idea! You can also find many different variations of vuvuzela’s, whistles, and other ringing objects at a local dollar store just like the one in the picture to the right.
Beads
A party is not successful if you don’t get your guests involved. Having something simple for guests to wear such as beads, hats or wigs are camera attractors. They also brighten up pictures and give those who missed out on the party the impression that it was the “Party of the Year”.
World Cup Pez Dispenser
A World Cup Themed pez dispenser is an amusing and playful toy that can be passed around during a party. The one to the right was purchased at a dollar store, so it doesn’t exactly “dispense” candy as you would expect. Either way, collectors or not, these toys and candy’s are silly add-ons to your party.
Party Gifts
Playing games at parties can be fun because of the number of people involved, embarrassment level or the amount of alcohol in people’s blood. A popular dance game used to break the ice amongst guests is Limbo. All you need is a broomstick and of course some music.
In a World Cup themed party, handing out a mini cup to a winning team or individual would be ideal. However any candy, chocolate, key chains or toys, preferably soccer related is great. The point is to get people excited about a prize they get to take home.
